As promised, I’m back with another blog post to talk about some of the decisions behind the design of Chronotis: Card Fighting System. Today, i actually wanna talk about why I decided to make this game.
Funny enough, This game didn’t start off as a card game or any game for that matter. The concept was originally about coming up with an animated series called “The White Snake Chronicles” back in 2015. I was going to make a small series to put onto Youtube and then just kind of build from there. Ultimately, I decided against this as to be frank, at the time, I didn’t have the resources or time to devote to such a massive undertaking. So because of that, I dropped the project and worked on other things.
In 2016, I came back to the project because I was in the middle of working on a card game for a friend of mine. After finishing that game, i decided to take a look at all of my previous works regarding white snake chronicles and realized I hated the story completely. It was too generic and just flat out horrible. So during my free time, I began writing a new story with a completely new perspective and named the story Chronotis.
If you break down the word it would go like this
- Chrono = Time related word
- ‘Tis = it is. (Example Tis’ true)
So if you put it together, it comes to “It is time”
As time passes, I will be posting story information regarding Chronotis here on this website you will be able to learn more about it. After writing a large portion of the story, I found myself with nothing to do or to work on so I began making this game into a card game. Not entirely sure what caused me to make it a card game. Almost like I just went “Welp, I’m turning this game into a card game!” And before I knew it, i had designed the entire game; in my head at least. In a stroke of irony, my original concept for Chronotis was actually being used by someone else lol. So I had to make the game completely from scratch and although I came up with the idea on my own, I did what was the “honorable” thing and scrapped the game. I remade the game from scratch in what is it’s current iteration and did my due diligence this time around to make sure no one had done anything similar.
I have been through so many ups and downs in relation to this game that I have had a difficult time even keeping pace with the project. I am pretty damn determined to see this game through to its completion.
